Archive 10/20 - 10/27/2004:
10/20/2004 - It was another harrowing drive yesterday. The wind was pretty fierce, but since I only had about 50 miles to go I thought it would be okay. Have you every heard of sway? Sway is what happens when a 50mph wind hits the broadside of a trailer that's moving at 50mph. For the first 15 miles I wasn't sure that my front tires were even on the pavement. We can add wind to my list of least favorite things to dive through. Anyway, that was yesterday, and my grandma had her home brewed wine to take the edge off of my nerves. She makes the best wine! I'm staying here for a few days to re-pickle my liver.
The weather decided to get nasty. It started raining not long after I arrived on Tuesday and didn't stop until late today. The rain gauge shows that 1-3/4 inches fell over the last 16 or so hours. Looking at the weather forecast there is a dark green line of rain across the whole western side of AZ. Hmmm... I may have to hang out here longer than expected...darn :o)
10/21/2004 - What day is it?
10/22/2004 - I drove to Phoenix without the coach. Nice drive... I went down to Blythe and then over on I-17. I love the speed limit in AZ!! 75 mph!!! Right on! I met Louise, Rick, Brad, Kelly, Ricky and Andrea for dinner.
Good times :o)
10/24/2004 - Driving back to Pahrump but taking a different route. I headed North on I-17 toward Flagstaff. On the way I stopped at Montezuma Castle and Montezuma Well. Very pretty country. The elevation rises to 6,000 feet or so. There was still snow on the ground in places up at the top. It looked a lot like Tahoe up there... lots of pine trees. Beautiful. Flagstaff seems like a really nice place. Not nearly as big as I was expecting. Very nice little town. I stayed the night... lots of Elk warning signs on the road, didn't really want to drive at night.
10/25/2004 - Continuing the drive from Flagstaff to Pahrump. Beautiful country. Went from alpine mountains to dry desert... Very cool.
You know those signs on the road that warn you to slow down for curves? In AZ a lot of those signs say "70"... Maybe you have to be there, but it makes me laugh that you're supposed to slow down to 70 for curves... Gotta love it!
10/27/2004 - It's raining again. We received 2/3 of an inch last night. This is so weird! It's snowing like crazy on Mt. Charleston. If Mountain Springs summit (5,493 feet) has road restrictions I won't be able to get into Las Vegas today...
